These bright red cactus flowers can be seen a million miles away. They are hard to overlook. I am constantly on the hunt for spring time blooms and I found so many claret cup cacti. I was scaling a cliff at one point to get a shot of the biggest bloom I’ve seen. I would see these mountain biking and I saw them rock climbing. At one point I saw a group of claret cup cactus that had to be 5 feet wide. They love southern Utah and were really flourishing. I would see them growing out of straight rock. These specific ones were found by Jem Trail in Virgin Utah. It was mid spring with the most beautiful perfect sunny weather and the light brought out the most vibrant hue of red. Cadmium red light was almost an exact match to its color. Overall I was so happy to see so many of these this spring, I also saw them in Joshua Tree National Park and on my way to Bristlecone National Forest.
