As an artist, my work is deeply inspired by the natural beauty of the desert landscape. This work entails the blooming Desert Fivespot. The delicate globes are composed of five petals and five red spots. I have always accidentally run into these and they are a pleasant surprise. I have spotted them once in Ocotillo and then more recently I found a fairly large patch of them growing on the side of a steep hill in Death Valley. There were so many of them I was overwhelmed. Growing among the Fivespot was lots of ‘yellow cup’ flowers, creating a beautiful field of complimentary colors. While the Desert Fivespot flower is only about an inch wide, painting this on a large scale really helped me become familiar with its composition and appreciate its immense beauty.
This work is now framed! Silver leaf floating frame, outside dimensions 41x31”
